SFTP & SSH
SFTP (file transfer over SSH) is the way to upload a site in bulk. Plain FTP is not offered.
Connecting
| Protocol | SFTP |
| Host | the server hostname, e.g. panel.hoster.example |
| Port | 22 |
| Username | your account name |
| Password | your panel password (or an SSH key) |
Works with FileZilla, WinSCP, Cyberduck, Transmit, or the
sftp command. You land in your home directory; put website
files in public_html/ (primary domain) or the domain's
folder.
Access modes
The SSH / SFTP page has three modes:
- SFTP only (default) — file transfer only, no shell.
- Shell + SFTP — a full
bashlogin for command-line work (ssh acme@panel.hoster.example), e.g. running Composer, WP-CLI or database imports withmariadb. Cron jobs are still managed through the panel;crontab -eis disabled. - Off — no SSH or SFTP access at all.
SSH keys
Add public keys (ed25519, ECDSA, or RSA of at least 3072 bits) on the
page; each gets a name and shows its fingerprint. Keys are written to
~/.ssh/authorized_keys by the server — edit them through
the panel, not by hand, or they will be overwritten.
Once a key works, you can disable password login for your account so only keys are accepted. The panel refuses to disable it while you have no keys.
Notes
- Everything you upload is owned by your own user; PHP runs as the
same user, so no permission fixing is needed. Sensible modes are
644for files and755for directories. - SFTP users are not "jailed" to their home, but every other account's home is unreadable to you and yours to them.
- A suspended account loses SSH/SFTP access until it is unsuspended.
